A new website is in the works! I hope to have it available in mid-May 2024. In the mean time, some of the information on this page may be out of date. I apologize for any inconvenience this causes. As always, consult an attorney if you have legal questions, and feel free to contact me via the "general contact" form if you have any questions.

Typically, I prefer to provide notary services as a “last resort” option as there really are several alternatives that are already accessible and available to most people, they just may not be aware of them.  Below I have provided a list of places you may be able to find notary services in the Lynchburg area, although this list generally applies to any locations within the Commonwealth.  While I am happy to serve the people of this great Commonwealth, both residents and guests, being a notary is not my occupation and my availability is often very limited. Please check these options before scheduling an appointment with me or during times when I am not available.

  • Public Library – the public library often has notaries on staff or who are volunteers. I personally have used the notary at the Timbrook Library on Leesville Road (yes, even notaries need a notary sometimes!). However, not every public library has notaries and those who do may not have a notary on duty or available every day.  Please call ahead to confirm if a notary is available.  The Timbrook Library’s number is (434) 592-9551. You can also call the main library numbers for:
    • Campbell County Public Libraries (434) 332-9560
    • Bedford County Public Libraries (540) 586-8911
    • Lynchburg City Public Library (434) 455-6300.
  • Your Bank or Credit Union – almost every bank and credit union has at least one notary on staff to provide services as a courtesy to their banking customers. As with the public library, not every bank has a notary on staff and those who do may not have a notary available every day, so please call ahead and check with your bank to see if and when a notary is available to you.
  • Your Employer / HR Department – you or your spouse/partner’s employer (Admin/HR/Legal/Accounting departments, usually) may have a notary on staff. While these notaries typically only perform duties for the employer’s needs, they may be able and willing to perform one-time notary services to their employees. Call and check with the appropriate department for information.
  • Circuit Court Clerk’s Office – some court clerk offices have staff who can provide notary services during regular business hours and/or by appointment. Offering notary service is at the discretion of each individual clerk. Not every jurisdiction’s clerk makes this service available, so it is recommended you call the clerk’s office in your jurisdiction to inquire.
    • Campbell County Circuit (434) 332-9517
    • Bedford County Circuit (540) 586-7632
    • Lynchburg City Circuit (434) 455-2620
  • The UPS Store – Some area UPS Stores have notaries on staff and may or may not charge the statutory notary fee.  As with libraries and banks, not every location has a notary and those who do may not have a notary available every day.  Please call ahead to inquire about notary services and their hours of availability. (Note: Other businesses similar to the UPS Store may provide notary services, but I am not personally aware of them so that is why they have not been listed here.  No endorsement of The UPS Store is implied and I do not receive any compensation for making this recommendation).
  • Notary Rotary – This website lists notaries from around the country that have created (and maintain at least every 6 months) public profiles offering their services as a notary public.  While not all of the notaries listed here offer mobile services, many of them do.  You may click here to see a list of currently registered notaries on the website in the Lynchburg area or you can visit their website and do your own search. (Note: Although I am a registered member of Notary Rotary, no endorsement of their website, directory, or any of the notaries found there should be inferred.  Likewise, Notary Rotary does not endorse me or any other notaries listed in their directory.)

If any of the above options do not work for you, please feel free to request an appointment or just reach out to me via the “General Email” link above (under “Contact & Appointments”) and I will do my best to help you find a solution if I am not available for appointments.
