A new website is in the works! I hope to have it available in mid-May 2024. In the mean time, some of the information on this page may be out of date. I apologize for any inconvenience this causes. As always, consult an attorney if you have legal questions, and feel free to contact me via the "general contact" form if you have any questions.

** New Website Coming in 2024!! **

The information below may no longer be accurate. Until my new and updated website goes live, please email me to get more specific fee information.

Statutory Fee for Notarial Acts:
square_cc_logos_sm***LEGISLATIVE UPDATE (4/3/2024)*** Del. Kathy Tran (D-18) introduced H.B. 986 in the 2024 Legislative Session that increases the maximum notarial charge from $5 to $10. This law was signed by Gov. Glen Youngkin (R) on April 2, 2024 and takes effect July 1, 2024. This is the first increase in this fee in nearly 20 years (it was last increased in 2005)! While the costs notaries pay for their commissions, their supplies, and insurance (for those who carry it) have increased over the past two decades, the statutory fees have been frozen.

Effective July 1, 2024, my fee for notarial acts will increase to $10. As a reminder, the law doesn’t require notaries charge a fee, and many do not. For assistance in finding a notary who may not charge a fee for their services, please click here or select “Find a Notary” from my main menu.

The Code of Virginia (§ 47.1-19) caps the maximum a notary may charge for their services at $5.00 per notarial act performed prior to July 1, 2024; beginning July 1, 2024 that maximum increases to $10.00 per notarial act. While most banks and other similar institutions offer these services at no charge to their existing customers, mobile notaries, such as myself, do charge for the acts they perform. I charge the maximum statutory fee allowed per act (i.e., each time I place my stamp and signature). This is to be paid by cash, credit/debit card, or contactless payment and will be collected before I perform my duties. When a customer uses credit/debit card or contactless payment (such as Apple Pay or Google Pay), the customer has the option of getting a receipt emailed to them. Upon request, I will provide a paper receipt of fees paid for cash customers.

Purchase of Forms:
With the exception of loose certificates, when required, and the two exceptions found by clicking here, I do not provide nor sell any forms or legal documents.

Printing Services:
More information about printing services will be coming on my new website. The basic is: $3.50 convenience fee, and 12¢ per page (20lb paper) or 22¢ per page (24lb paper).

Travel Fees:
The Code of Virginia (§ 47.1-19) states that a notary may charge reasonable travel fees when notarial acts are performed outside of a notary’s normal working area (“usual area”).  These fees are not considered notary fees and will not be recorded as such in the notary journal.  These fees must be disclosed to the signer and both the notary and signer must agree upon such fees in advance.  The following provides a general synopsis of my service area and travel fees:

Specific Travel Fee information has been removed from this page as it is now outdated!

When my new website launches in 2024, I will have plenty (and I do mean PLENTY!) of information regarding travel fees, my interpretation of the Code of Virginia and how it applies to notary travel fees, my service area, my methodology for calculating fees, and a schedule of basic travel fee areas.  The new calculations are broken down into 10-minute groups, and the fee is calculated on the average travel time to a notary location (not mileage). The distance from my “usual area,” which I’m defining as the intersection of Waterlick & Timberlake Roads in Campbell County, Virginia, will determine the fee. Travel fees increase after 6pm as the value of time after hours also increases. There is no travel fee during business hours for appointments within my usual area. After 6pm or anytime outside of my usual area, travel fees apply.

Please remember that there are plenty of FREE notary options available to you, regardless of your location! So check out the “Find a Notary” page for more information.
